MWE Expanding Textile Operations
Malaysia Daily Bulletin | 02 September 2015
  • MWE Holdings is investing US$7 million (RM29.3 million) to expand its textile business under its unit, United Sweethearts Garment, which includes setting up a new plant in Vietnam.
  • The expansion will add another 42 production lines to the plant compared with the existing 26 and will bring the group’s combined production lines in Malaysia and Vietnam up to 100.
  • Construction work for the plant will start soon and it is expected to begin operations in mid-2016. When in operation, the plant will increase the firm’s production capacity by 50 percent.
  • Out of the US$7 million expenditure, about US$1 million will be allocated to upgrade its Nibong Tebal plant in Malaysia, which had 58 production lines.

Significance: MWE is expecting a 60 percent boost in turnover (projected to affect FY17 to FY18) upon completion of the expansion plan. The proposal also ascertains the group’s focus on its textile division as its main driver of growth.
