The bull market has celebrated its second anniversary last Wednesday, and while the honeymoon may not be over, it is worthwhile for investors to pause and reflect on some of the lessons we have learned from the great financial crisis. Our local bourse has doubled since 9 March 2009, after plunging 62% from its highest level of 3906 on 10 October 2007.

On the other hand, investors may want to consider holding some listed CPO stocks as most speakers at the 2011 Palm Oil Conference indicated that the near term palm oil prices will be strong before softening in 2H11. They expect the strong prices to be fuelled by the El-Nino impact on palm oil supply, Indonesian export tax, extension of US biodiesel tax credit, global demand shifts and strong crude oil prices.

This week the Chinese ports unit of Hong Kong conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa, Hutchison Port Holdings Trust will be launching the public offer of its mega initial public offering (IPO). Retail investors can look forward of getting a chance to participate in the Singapore’s largest IPO, which seeks to raise up to $7 billion of proceeds.

Transport Minister Raymond Lim has announced that Circle Line Stage 4-5 will commence operations beginning October 2011, expected to relieve crowding levels on critical stretches of existing MRT lines by 10%-15%. At the same time, the Minister also said that more buses will be added to relieve train congestions as the new tracks are gradually being added over the next 10 years.
